  • Not The Way To Start The Weekend

Sad news from last weekend's Round The County race.

Terry Reid and crew were delivering their Hobie 33 to the Orcas Island Yacht Club for the start on Saturday when some
unfortunate circumstances arose, and the boat did not survive, but fortunately the crew are a well and accounted for.

    ?
"Hi RTC Sailors, This is Terry, the owner of Stretch, a Hobie 33'.

I wanted to update everyone on our incident that very many of you have been inquiring about and sending your thoughts for our safety. Stretch and crew attempted our delivery to the San Juan Islands Friday afternoon. We later got into very strong winds and the boat had troubles. Eventually all five crew were safely rescued from Stretch by the amazing work of the USCG."

"Stretch was found on Monday morning upon the rocks and is a total loss. Thanks for everyone's kind words and support."

    Best, Terry

After about 10 days in the Southern Ocean, I wake up this morning to the boat broaching. I stop her from broaching only to realize it is freezing outside! The sun is up, it comes up around 4am UTC, there are some cumulus clouds floating about but what broached the boat was a little squall bringing 26 knots after a night of 18-20knots. The boat doesn’t like the sudden change in breeze strength and direction making her wipe out slightly. It’s a gentle broach and easily fixed...
