    Cloudbreak Delivers Ecstasy And Agony

We are tired, torn, at a loss. Those who were eliminated today have lost most of their gear in horrendous crashes. The four of us remaining in the final can’t fathom our fortune. I find myself replaying the narrow misses on huge barreling sections, the brushes with reef and disaster. Making the final feels less an act of competitive prowess as much as a revelation: this is what windsurfing can feel like. Powerful, perfect and real.

    The morning is still in

All Wrapped Up In Hamilton Island

The 36th edition of Hamilton Island Race Week concluded on Saturday with a mixture of courses around Lindeman Island, the traditional landmark of the closing passage race which sorted the finish order in multiple divisions of the Hamilton Island and the Australian Yachting Championship point scores.

The strong south-east trade winds trumped the showers and there were smiles all around as more than 200 crews packed up wet boats before glamming-up for the traditional...

Leg 2 Of Le Solitaire du Figaro Commences

At 1 p.m. this Sunday, under the sun, the conditions were ideal for this flying start in an East / South-East breeze established around 10 knots in Port-la-For?t. It's not easy for the sailors to master their mounts on the starting line across the wind, “English style”. Several of them cut the line too soon, which forced the committee to relaunch a starting procedure after a general recall.

The second start will be the correct one for the entire fleet. Port tack,

Brisk and breezy Australian Yachting Championships Day 4

A sunny day but fresh and chilly this morning for the 2022 Australian Yachting Championships (AYC) at Hamilton Island Race Week in Queensland, with the wind metre registering 30 knots and gusting as competitors rugged up and waited.
“All Dent Passage starts are postponed. It’s likely the wind will drop to 20 knots a little later, which is manageable. Those on the Eastern line will start on time,”

Cascais, Portugal, August 22, 2022. On the second day of the Snipe World Championship, the wind was light leaving the harbor, but began to build steadily with big shifts, causing the Race Committee to move the course 3 times to find suitable conditions for racing.

After almost 2 hours, the wind was finally steady, with intensity between 15 and 20+ knots, allowing to finally start racing. In the only race of the day

  • Disaster Narrowly Averted By Good Communication And Proper Planning
    by Photoboy

    So this happened:

On December 1st I departed on a delivery from Woods Hole, MA to Puerto Rico, with the owner Laura Shulman and crew Tomasz Dvorak. We left in a NW wind, 25-35 knots with only a staysail up and sailed conservatively with wind aft of beam, towards the Gulf stream. As we approached the wind became lighter and we hosted the mainsail, until ultimately, we were motor sailing safely across the GS.

We exited the GS in light upwind conditions

PHOTOS AND TESTIMONIALS – Quentin Mocudet, skipper of Mini 6.50 number 1015 saw his boat catch fire on the reservoir in La Turballe. The unfortunate sailor recounts the mishap. The origin of the flames may be in the fumes of the petrol F used to clean the winches

    RIDERS ON THE STORM

Glassy seas, but an ominous sky greeted the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team out today deep in the Gulf of Cagliari – the Golfu de Casteddu in local Sardinian- and with a forecast for the wind to increase significantly but some debate and conflict over quite how much and when, it was a tricky day for the team’s meteorologists. It was even harder actually on the water as the team docked out from their quite astonishingly well-appointed base in the...
