Serious Sailing, Serious Fun; Traditions Build Winners Trailer

  • Serious Sailing, Serious Fun; Traditions Build Winners Trailer

Snipes have a tradition that winning is not everything so getting a coach to help the back of the fleet during a race makes perfect sense. Snipe sailors wants all the racers to sail their fastest and have a great time on the water.

That same vision means everyone shares the latest "go fast" modifications to the boats. That keeps the competition between the sailors.

Just as important as the racing, the shoreside activities have been vital to the Class. Whether it's the daiquiris and paella dinner at the Miami Don Q regatta or a local San Diego Fleet BBQ, everyone knows you'll find serious fun when you come to a Snipe regatta.

The Snipe Class has been actively recruiting younger sailors by emphasizing how much you learn sailing a relatively inexpensive tactical boat. It's clear that with younger sailors Anna Tunnicliffe, Alexandre Tinoco and Enrique Quintero winning World Championships this Class has found a path to the future.

    DVD available!

It’s official. The Serious Sailing, Serious Fun: Traditions Build Winners documentary is now ready for distribution to the Class. There were times when it seemed this project would never end, but with support from many of you, the Class has a portrait of how an older one design class can both honor its history and add younger sailors to the competitive mix. As Brainard Cooper says in the documentary "The Snipe has a honored history and we forget it at our peril"

The documentary is 48 min. long and features 44 people explaining why they think the Snipe is the boat to sail. For those of you who participated in the focus groups last Fall, you’ll see how your comments reshaped the documentary. For those who have yet to see the film, you have a real treat in store. There are some facts about the Snipe that you may not have known and some stories that are going to become part of Snipe lore along with an in depth look at Snipe traditions and strengths.
