  • Actually they lost, having exceeded by 3 min the 40 min race time limit. The RC for some reason did not halt the race at this time limit, as they probably should have per the rules.

              • a few pixs from thees past few days of FOUR AC72s in the bay!! still just wish they would line up for a photo-op sailing for the fans and for their team in recognizing it's historic for so many AC72s to be in the bay together, not important that two belong to the same team.... can't wait till Artemis gets back in the water!! just a few more days

                • ah KNEW something was wrong with LR after she foiled then flopped down in a big splash. after that she just crawled and nobody was doing anything but standing around

Thursday July 25th, San Francisco: partly cloudy skies, 13-14 knots of wind from South-West, flat sea, flood tide 2 knots.

Luna Rossa Challenge today raced alone for the fourth time, as Artemis Racing still was not ready to race.

Once it was clear that the Swedish team wouldn’t be on the start line, the umpires terminated the race ten minutes after the start, black-flagging Artemis Racing and awarding the point to Luna Rossa Challenge (note: rules 60.5 and 44.1c of 34th America’s Cup Racing Rules).

Luna Rossa continued to sail on the race course, but soon after rounding the windward gate, on the second run, suddenly stopped foiling and “seated” on the water, considerably reducing the boat speed.

“Unfortunately we hit something and the lower part of the port rudder broke, forcing us to dock in” explained skipper max Sirena. “It was a real shame because we were sailing quite well and had found a good trim; it would have been interesting to collect more data. In these unfortunate circumstances it is comforting for us to know that it was an accident and not a structural failure of our equipment.”

Sunday, July 28th, Luna Rossa Challenge will face Emirates Team New Zealand for the last time in the Round Robin of the 34th America’s Cup. The race is scheduled to start at 12.15 local time.

                          • For A Few Foils More

Oracle Racing was out early with 2 AC 72's on the set up practice course on the central
Bay. By just after noon, Ben's boat seemed to have mechanical issues and retired.

Paying attention to the idle chatter on the radio payed dividends, as soon there was communication between the two syndicates that they would match up, and match u they did!

Starting from the bottom of the course they blasted up wind 50 yards away from each other, and much to every one surprise, Artemis paced them quite well.

Off wind was a similar story, with Artemis keeping pace with Oracle for the most part,
negotiating the foil during maneuvers was a bit lacking for the Big Blue team, but hey,
                            they were right up there!

Afterwards, about 2:30, Spithill crew headed for the barn, yet Artemis stayed out for
a few foils more...dont count them out in the Louis Vuitton!

                            • great pixs!!! i went to lunch with a friend and when i returned they were both off the Rock, then east then south. am sure there will be more days of practice for both teams, so will catch them again soon. tomorrow i have visiting friends and showing them around. they will love seeing 72s in the bay and told them that's as possible as seeing the birds (they are bird-watchers); unknown till you actually see one!!
