  • THOSE AC72s

so, in possibly the very last few days i'll have my camera not packed waiting for a military cargo plane to take me away (date & time undetermined but already know i'll have to ferry then bus (3) to travis) does anyone have any word on whether 17 looks to be going out today? yesterday when i was headed to a foto shoot in marin, on the GGT bus over the bridge saw the 17 nosing toward the marina spit, where i would normally be standing & freezing. dam da luck!

was out at the fishing pier by the warming hut and snapped a few there of the 17, then changed to the marina spit. they seemed to be having discussions as they stayed static for some time a lot today. at one point i blinked as they made a run upwind between alcatraz and angel island then disappeared. i found them in belvedere cove for at least an half hour. they then went upwind for a bit then made a run down then seemed to be departing, turned around around fisherman's wharf and came back, then ran down and this time slowly disappeared and went home by 3pm. ETNZ boat followed them everywhere as on previous days. at one point was so close, then 17 stopped and they like DUH then scootered off to a point much farther away. hahahaaa

Oracle just tweeted that she might be sailing again today. will go to my usual cold breezy spots including the spit depending on WHERE she goes. i've noticed at times she will tack in the calms at pier 43, the ft mason piers and at the marina spit. IF she goes near the bridge again, you'll know where i'll TRY to be!

was surprised to see her in the fog today

                but the fog was lifting

i was talking to another man who was out earlier and happened to see her. said she had already made two runs so apparently i made it to the pier in time to watch her foil all the way from B2B though of course i couldnt see her past the ft mason piers, but i watched the tippy-top of the wingsail over the piers and it was moving FAST

Any discernible variances in angle of foils from recent previous sailing trips on US -17 you can see comparatively?

great images Tom! yes, i was very shocked to see them out in the fog - but did you notice the wingsail? looks like it was angled. of course i know it can BUT this could well be the very first time i've seen it in actual use and angled to one side or another! refer to the above images i snapped today, the very three images you can see a shadow of the wingsail at the base and seems the wingsail is angled. comments from anyone else noticing this too, other than Built to List's comment of the same?
