For the 1st time in history, a major surfing event has come to San Francisco's Ocean Beach, the 2011 Rip Curl Pro Search!

The area just west of Golden Gate Park, between Lincoln and Fulton will be the host for the next 12 days. Parking right at the beach is tough, bring some nice hiking shoes, skateboard or a bike.

The crowds amass at ground zero, but there was action up and down the beach today!

Locals were getting their groove on and enjoying the big sets and nice offshore conditions. Some sets were in the 10' range, and is always the case at Ocean Beach,
the peaks were shifty.

Big contest means a big tent. But don't worry you can't get in there. Its reserved for VIP's, staff and contestants.

With previous stops on the tour in Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Tahiti, New York, So Cal, France and Portugal, SF 1s the 2nd to last stop before it winds up at the Pipeline in North Shore of Hawaii!

Big contests attract big talent....

Some of the talent is also in the water, check out the list of who's who in the surfing world, surfing right here, in SF!

The surfing continues through the 12th and runs till 4:00 PM daily. Today and tomorrow look like the best days until early next week...

So grab yourself a viewing buddy, your aloha shirt and play a little hooky!
