Why? I can only speculate... and as you know I'm quite adept at that!... but perhaps the manufacturer intended for you to motor back and forth between marks so the machine could calculate correction values and did not expect you to need both sides to read out while in CAL mode.

Note well: all I know about those new-fangled compassess is "flux-gate."

I understand all that but thanks anyway.

The issue is one side of the compass reads the proper heading and the other side reads CAL.

Why would one side work but the other read CAl when there is only one compass in the device?

I have sent a request into Raymarine (owner of Tacktick) but I am not hopeful for an answer.

I Finally got the battery replaced, by and electronics control systems friend. Let it charge for a several days.
It seems to work in all modes except in Compass mode the right side gives an accurate read out and the left side reads CAL.
I know with the jumperless model you have to cover the solar cell and it is supposed to reset.

Anyone have issues with one side working in Compass mode and the other not?

    Thanks.

Dave, I'll admit I don't know electronic compasses from Adam, but in my experience with PID digital temperature controllers and electronic scales, etc., "CAL" is something that is displayed after some unusual and inobvious combination of button presses (often requiring them to be held for 3 or 5 seconds) and signifies the state of being in some sort of calibration mode.
