Yannick Bestaven: “Today is a great gift and a great first both for my partner Ma?tre CoQ and for me. A new IMOCA, built together. I look forward to this day. It's a beautiful delivery even if our baby took a little longer than expected to get out of the construction site. This Ma?tre CoQ V is the result of a collective effort that began 17 months ago when the management of Ma?tre CoQ asked me what I wanted to do after winning this Vend?e Globe. “And, why not win it a second time” I offered them. “Banco…” they replied. What could be more beautiful than taking up challenges?
Dream together, share with as many people as possible, inspire, inspire... It's all in the process. The enthusiasm of the last Vend?e Globe proves that our society needs these spaces. If, with Ma?tre CoQ, we inspire and allow some to come true, the Vend?e Globe 2024 is won. The final victory is the consequence of a multitude of acts, decisions... A delayed launch of Ma?tre CoQ V, why?
"The construction of a boat is a collective work with the intervention of several service providers. While certain tasks follow one another, others can be done jointly... At certain times during the composite shipyard, there were defections of personnel mainly due to to the Covid. Which caused the delay. In addition, I wanted to change the architects' plans to adapt Maitre CoQ V to solo use, while the 1th Hour Racing Team-Malamā plan is designed for the crew. there and back and adjustments also took time. It should also be noted that our team has remained, in terms of the number of people to work on a daily basis, identical to that of the previous campaign. This launch is not late in terms of the start of the Vend?e Globe in 2024. I prefer that our IMOCA be well finished in a shipyard,rather than afloat where everything is more complicated, especially for the technical team... Let's not get the wrong objective!"
Master CoQ V versus Master CoQ IV?
"The cockpit is more closed than on our previous boat. Which is real additional protection for the skipper. The hull of the Ma?tre CoQ V is narrower. The rudders have more elongated profiles. The major change is mainly in the foils which are larger. In developed length, these new foils are 7 meters where, on the previous Master CoQ, they were only 4.5 meters. This generation of foilers flies rather, faster and is faster in the transition phases. The performances are in theory superior. In terms of the interior, I learned the lessons of the last Vend?e Globe. I can do everything from my well-set seat."
