11 days 21 hours 48 minutes and 18 seconds after leaving Ushant, the Maxi Banque Populaire V crossed off of Good Hope, arriving and at the end of the second intermediate segment in the Jules Verne Trophy and establishing a much faster time then the previously set record. With 8245 miles already in their wake, Loïck Peyron and his men register a record second to their list of successes in a few days, and now sailing in the Indian Ocean. They are now 1791 nm in advance of Groupama'a 2010 reference.
It's quite incredible to have passed the cape of good hope late last night, and we should be passing cape aghulas (spelling?) the southernmost point of Africa in 30 minutes, in just a shade under 12 days from Ushant island.
We have had great weather, Loick, Juan and Marcel, on the shore, have taken us on an excellent route, always in the wind, and on deck we have worked hard at sailing fast and safely.
25% of the current record time done now, maybe more if we are quicker than 48 days...pleased to have this much time on the record, and it looks like some decent weather ahead to the Kerguelens at least.
Likely to put a short gybe in southwards today to catch the next low coming up from behind..

"Now sailing in the Indian Ocean, the Maxi Banque Populaire V now heads to the Kerguelen Islands. Still benefiting from a west wind, the giant trimaran is faced with a sea state requiring the crew to slow down. On board the instruction given to the skipper skippers is strict: it does not exceed 30 knots! : "We finally jibed a few hours ago and we are on starboard tack for 1st time since the Canaries, which is also a record! The sea is very trained and have keep an effort to slow down to protect the boat. We follow now a front and we'll knit a bit for a few hours before arriving at Kerguelen, probably tomorrow night. For several hours, efforts are huge, the boat is in great demand. We must be careful "

"Particularly favored by the weather for twelve days, Loïck Peyron and his cell foresaw a slowdown forecast for the next hour. Not always worn the same stream, they expect yet more difficult to pass around the Kerguelen Islands. Hours all the more sensitive the ice so far absent from the control screens, should indeed be responsible to remind the crew of the Maxi Banque Populaire sailing in their waters that: "It is of blue on one side and gray on the other! There's this long front to the north which is slipped over the past few days, the goal is to approach it and wait for it to turn."
" The conditions will calm down, it will become very light near the Kerguelen, we do not know yet whether in fact we will go through the north or south. What is known is that the water temperature is almost negative in Western . There is a big area of icebergs after the Kerguelen. We will go north enough to avoid it. We should leave the Indian Ocean in six days, with probably a new record with the key."
