The Mistral blows on the Swan Sardinia Challenge
Second day with ideal wind for racing, three races and the ranking that begins to take shape

Porto Cervo, 24 June 2021. Weather forecast and regatta program perfectly respected on the second day of racing of the Swan Sardinia Challenge, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda together with Nautor's Swan and ClubSwan Racing. At the top of the provisional ranking in the different classes we find respectively: Sparti among the ClubSwan 50, G-Spot and Vitamina on equal points between the ClubSwan 36, Koyré - Spirit of Nerina between the ClubSwan 42 and Ulika in the Swan 45 Class.

At 12 noon the Race Committee led by Principal Race Officer Arianne Mainemare promptly started the procedures for the first of the three windward-leeward races scheduled, all carried out in the best possible way thanks to the Mistral wind which rose from 12 knots to 20 at the start. windward buoy during the third test of the day.

Today's sea and wind conditions are those for which the Porto Cervo regatta course is internationally recognized. The competitors were able to give vent to their competitive passion by engaging in windward techniques with close crossings and adrenaline-pumping downwind glides for the ClubSwan 50s and ClubSwan 36s who in these conditions offer the best of their performance.

We have seen some boats emerge, but also alternating results between one test and another as always happens in one design fleets of high competitive level. Among the ClubSwan 50s, the Russian Sparti of Dmitri Rybolovlev assisted in tactics by the Spanish Fernando Echavarri, Olympic gold medalist in Quindao, took the lead 2 points ahead of the second in the provisional standings, Marcus Brennecke's Hatari, 4-2-1 i his partial, third in the general classification is Cuordileone by Leonardo Ferragamo who, after winning the first race of the day, was able to recover an early start by climbing the fleet up to third place in the second race. Earlybird, yesterday's winner, had to retire due to a broken bowsprit due to a small collision with another competitor.

Fernando Echavarri, Sparti tactician: “Today's weather conditions are ideal for racing, the ClubSwan 50 fleet is very competitive. We made two good starts that allowed us to sail as we wanted, we were very fast both upwind and downwind, we recorded a good performance in general with excellent maneuvers on board. We are happy to race here in Porto Cervo and seeing us at the top of the ranking is fantastic!

Values leveled between the ClubSwan 36, where the winner of the day, Vitamina by Andrea Lacorte and G-Spot by Serena di Lapigio sit at the top of the provisional classification, both on equal points and today winners of one race each. “Our duel with G-Spot is always very interesting and fun - explained Andrea Lacorte, Vitamina's helmsman - Giangiacomo Serena has always been a friend and a great opponent. We are having a lot of fun together! " Third place for Fra Martina of the Pavesio brothers while Farstar of Lorenzo Mondo, today winner of one of the tests, is fourth in the provisional standings.

Among the ClubSwan 42 Koyré - Spirit of Nerina by Luca Formentini, tactician Roberto Spata, leads the ranking with today's partials 1-2-2. Second place for Nadir of Pedro Vaquer Comas, third in the provisional Dralion of Pit Finis. “After yesterday's victory, today too we won the first race of the day and collected two second places - said Roberto Spata, Koiré's tactician - we are currently at the top of the standings. The regattas are beautiful and hard-fought, sailing in Porto Cervo is always fantastic, a unique setting with this Mistral. Our fleet arrives at the buoy always compact, the arrivals are at the photofinish, it is not easy also because the Swan 45s sail on different angles from ours. "

In the Swan 45 Class, two firsts and a fourth place allowed Ulika di Stefano Masi, tactician Edoardo Mancinelli Scotti, to take the lead ahead of Lennard van Oeveren's Dutch Motions and Klaus Diederichs' Fever. “We started sailing on Ulika a few years ago - explained the owner Stefano Masi - at the beginning we dedicated ourselves to regattas in compensated time with excellent results, since last year we have started racing one design class. For us it is the first time that we have won a prize of the day and it is a beautiful emotion ”.

The winners of the day received the trophies offered by Garmin Marine, sponsor of the second day of racing of the Swan Sardinia Challenge, in Piazza Azzurra.

The regattas resume tomorrow at 12 with Mistral forecast similar to today, between 14 and 20 knots.
