Really nice conditions yesterday for the opening of the Labor Day regatta. Inside the breakwater, we started in around 10 knots that built steadily to 15 knots at the top of the course, with around 12 knots at the gate. The RC got in four races for nine classes. There are 10 boats in the F18 fleet, and the initial mark roundings were tight and exciting. There was quite a bit more chop on the upper quarter of the course, but the bottom was pretty flat. I don't know how many Lasers are out there, but it sure seemed like they just about fill the harbor! Three classes; full-rig, radials and something I haven't seen before - 4.7s. These look like they have an even smaller mainsail - waaaaay shorter in the foot. Lots of kids out. We had some fog in the morning, but it burned off during the first race - sunny and warm, even though the water is still atypically cold for the end of summer. The harbor seals were out in force - we had several close encounters and enjoyed watching the aquabatics.
Three more races scheduled today (Sunday) with slightly lighter conditions.
