pics - Vallejo Sat more wind
The wind speed needed to build to match the forecast (?),
and it changed direction.
Another boat with graceful lines and bright topsides:

I'm beginning to think the Party Circuit should be renamed the Crap Shoot Circuit. Between the season closer last year and Vallejo this year it seemed to be a matter of navigating wind holes than tactical racing.
On Saturday the Race committee started things up in very unsettled winds. A few minutes before our warning the wind shut down at the pin end the the current pushed us (and a few others) halfway down to the Berkeley pier. Oh well, it only took us another 28 minutes just to get back to the line. There goes Saturday... 3 other transition zones along the way made for more guess work. At least we picked up on the northerly pressure on San Pablo and had a good run down to Vallejo.
Sunday more of the same but at the other end. Exited the channel ahead of the fleet (by staying away from everyone else), had a great upwind leg staying in touch with the longer waterline boats in the class, just to be first to the hole encompassing the finish line and miss the pressure 5 boatlengths away. Watched a third of the fleet catch up from behind...
We did have some of the nicest sail up to the wind hole. Tight spinnaker reaching in completely flat water. What a joy!

sunday starts
Sunday starts were colorful, a few loud voices.
I was late to arrive and missed most of the boats by trying to find a spot on the end of Mare Island to
take pictures. The roads to the end of Mare Island are fenced off, but I found the golf course.
A few pictures are online (Link)
I heard a postponement signal and looked around.
Kokopelli, was definitely stuck getting out of the harbor
and stayed in that position for quite a while:
J-105: sail USA 31 ~appeared to be the best start from the limited perspective ashore
The fleet crossed with some fanfare and pretty good boat-handling, considering the close quarters
Racer X and Astra appeared to start well,
both boats handling nicely:
Kokopelli is definitely bigger than some others:
Multihulls started last. Most of the boats did not start on Sunday. A few multihulls DNF'ed (light-fluky) Saturday
and they did not make the trip to Vallejo for Sunday's start.
