  • StFYC Announces New Director of Race Operations

The St. Francis Yacht Club is pleased to announce that Robbie Dean will become our new Director of Race Operations, taking on one of the largest yacht club race management programs in the world. Dean replaces John Craig, who recently took a position as Principal Race Officer for the 34th Americas Cup.

The St. Francis Yacht Club expects to run 140 calendared race days in 2011. Dean will be responsible for the Club's race program, junior program, Club boats program, and waterfront operations. Dean is already familiar with StFYC events and the high standards he is expected to maintain. "I have always enjoyed racing at the St. Francis Yacht Club," he said. "The StFYC Race Committee and Event Chairs consistently produce amazing events."

Dean comes to StFYC from the San Diego Yacht Club. He knows San Francisco Bay well, however, having previously served as the Executive Director of the Treasure Island Sailing Center. Dean holds a US Sailing Level One Instructor Certification and has served on the board of directors of the California International Sailing Association and the Clean Marinas Program.

John Siegel, StFYC Chairman of the Board, said that he looks forward to working with Dean and expects the Club to benefit from Dean's knowledge of the sport and his connections in the sailing community. Commodore Pat Nolan said of Robbie Dean, "He has been an influential coach to many juniors, and as a result has developed several high-level sailors. Robbie is an accomplished racer himself. He's a past Laser 2 World Champion crew and recently qualified for World Championships in the Etchells and Snipe classes.”

Dean anticipates a season of "learning the Club, building the team, and working together with the members and local authorities to ensure that we can successfully run high caliber events in 2011, including the Laser Masters World Championship and the Junior Windsurfing Worlds. The re-construction of Doyle Drive and developments with America's Cup34 will keep things exciting to say the least." ~It's not the size of the website, it's how you use it! ~
