K38Bob, to avoid me doing a bunch of footin' and tickin' what are the differences between your equipment list and the NorCalORC list?

    Thanks.

      Thanks.
The significant difference is that the BAMA race does not use the NCORC minimum equipment requirements. Instead, the minimum equipment is specified in the BAMA doublehanded farallones NOR.

I understand that Rob. My question to Bob N. is what are the specific differences?

In the BAMA NOR the differences are underlined; I have not compared the two documents myself, so I can't claim that the underlining is complete. The NOR is available from jibeset.

I'm boat less right now. Well after this weekend any way. Willing to be abused on a boat if needed.

That's the great thing about standards; so many to chose from.

NorCalORC was supposed to fix that. I'm surprised BAMA doesn't just link to the list, like IYC (DHLS), SSS, OYRA, etc.

I'm hoping Bob N. has a little spreadsheet or something so I don't have to do one.

Actually the proposal for NCORC was never to make everything the same but to share info and to see what is applicable and adoptable for other races and to make it easy to see where they are different for the racers, clubs, and CG. Inspired by the Wetsu incident in DHLS 2012. BAMA does a skippers's meeting for instance- generally considered good but not practical for others for local ocean races. Personally I can't imagine not having it but I respect the sovereignty of the other OA's to run their races their way. Apparently BAMA also archives incidents which USS or ISAF apparently does not do and reviews them in the skippers meeting. As an engineer with process control experience, I can't imagine any other way for improvement. As an advisory body- "requirement" and "approved" are a bit of a misnomer too.

As many are fond of saying "BAMA only does one race per year". True and our NOR/SI/Standing instruction are all in one document. Easy to understand in a recent benchmarking exercise. The NCORC MOR is more than an equipment list and less than SI. We took the equipment list and inserted it into our SI equipment section. Where its different its underlined as indicated in the doc and noted by Rob. So if you meet the nonunderlined requirement- you're ok. If the whole item is underlined, then it supersedes NCORC MOR although practically thats only item 17 (audible and day/night signal per crew on crew). If you believe that MOR anchor/rode are suitable for your boat- you're good. BAMA really wants the racer to understand what they need and make their choice. If you click on the legacy link to OYRA equipment then it goes directly to the NCORC MOR btw. We don't like brand names either as specifications.

The DHF also has very different demographics compared to others races its been discovered which is part of the decision process we made- and the shorter time to implement being early in the calendar. Next year we'll see. The other differences are to support racers that participate in DHF but not the other ocean races. We can always review over time. We did update the list a bit to be easier to review when we noticed our number sequencing was off due to an accidental deletion. A lookup table is on the to do list but not near the top for now.

I see only one question in my posts. I guess I'll have to line up the two lists and parse them out. The underlining doesn't tell you what was omitted/removed.
