  • Well dam I'm done......

After over 30+ years of competitive racing due to a fractured vertebrae, slipped disk and some severe nerve damage I had to retire from racing today. This will be the first BBS that I will miss since the mid 90's not to mention countless ocean races and other regattas. There is some question if I'll ever be back on the pointy end again. To everyone I have sailed with and against over the years it's been a blast and I hope that in time I am able to once again join you on the race course!!

    WD Out.

Do they put old war dogs out to stud like they do horses?

If so, you have that going for you!

Not the War Dog I know. This must be an imposter.

WD finds solutions to the issues at hand, analyzes, then comes up with some crazy idea how to solve the problem with Phukery involved.

Not sure what the Dr. said but do it, to stay healthy for your family.

We'll have you out again soon.

Take care of self for a while and get healthy. No more jumping out of planes or jumping on BBQ's till next summer. And don't fall off the face of the earth again like you did 20 years ago. Remember I found you in some little town up north burning a couch in the front yard.

Does this mean I get the supply of masks?

Don't give up! Get some holistic work done. It's slow process, but the body does heal!

As our bodies grow older, the toll of our previous years of activities seems to catch up to us. It doesn't mean to stop activity, it just means to shift gears, maybe slower paced, but just a gear shift. Like others have suggested, maybe it means moving to the back end of the bus and driving -all you need there is a sound mind!

Though I don't have back issues and I don't know the pain or prognosis; I have knee issues that cut into my favorite sport - skiing! There will be a day when I have top say, "enough" but until then, I just take it easy and float on powder days and stay connected to the ground (no air!).

              WD,

Say it ain't so!!! We have unfinished business together on the Pickle-Fork.......like to finish the G.P.. ;-)

Let me know if and when you are ready for another foray to dark side. Remember, instead of those spine altering life-lines, etc., we've got the oh-so-comfy built in hammocks.......and cookies.

              Cheers!!!

On the bright side, you can concentrate on rum distribution.

Think you need a second opinion. BTW, Tai-chi has been helping me with my lower back/hips, though it still is a trouble spot for me.

For the record I have had 2 separate opinions and am getting a 3rd next week. I also have been doing PT and have another appointment today. I have lost over 25% of strength in my left leg and most of the feeling. I can't stand up for more than about 10 minuets at a time and or put any weight on my left side while sitting. I have been fighting this for over a month now and thought I could work through it but it has become clear that I need to take some time to heal, stop pushing and listen to the Doctors.

Good luck on the recovery WD, do take time to heal. But I do hope to hear the boogity calls on the race course in the near future.

Been close to this...lost feeling in one leg, lost feeling in my nuts. Let me tell you, it's pretty scary having numb nuts, all jokes aside. Patience, therapy and just plain taking it easy got me going again. Don't lose the faith.
