Congratulations to Andy Newell and his Ahi crew. Andy and his crew did an incredible job of putting their boat in the right places on the course today. He may have beaten us (Red Cloud) in the 1st race and certainly beat us in the second race. Good job Andy.

I'd like to thank the Encinal YC race committee for running a great set of races in difficult (very fluky) conditions. And last I want to acknowledge the 2 sport boats that were out for the race. Dan Alvarez had Jet Stream on the course and Zhenya Kirueshkin-Stepanoff had his Melges 24 Rusalka out racing.

It was a great day on the bay,

It was a great day on the bay,
3 sportboats, the Ultimate 24 was out as well. I think it was a good day for the smaller sportboats. It was still fun to race in shorts and tshirts on the bay.

If you race around here enough you get to race in good breeze (not too windy) and you get to race in shirt sleeves and shorts, but rarely on the same day. I think we found out how to get a race with conditions similar to Big Daddy in March and Great Pumpkin in October... go to the south bay in September!

I wish I knew what we did right. We race in some diverse fleets so we don't get too many tactical crossings or the opportunity to go to school on the boats around us. I really enjoy the short course/multiple lap format that was used for the last HDA race day and the PC 2nd Half Opener Sunday.

With all due respect to the fine folks at BVBC, conditions were really nice on the east side of the south bay and Encinal YC did a really good job of running the race.

Congratulations to Red Cloud for a great season, and for carrying the masthead kite in conditions far above what we could handle.

Oh yeah, more sporties next year! It sounds like if YRA is not doing what you want all you need to do is educate them on what you do want and they will do their best to provide it. Find someone to carry the flag and I think you will find YRA to be very supportive.

I have to agree as well with the format. I'm not sure why the short W/L courses don't attract more boats. We get to run multiple races, multiple starts, get to mix it up a bit more than the Bay tour races. Personally I enjoy the combination of both types of racing that HDA puts together. Hoping we can base that for a strong sportboat series next year. (yes, next year, its time to start planning for that).

Last Saturday we did better than we thought, thanks to good downwind speed. Upwind in those conditions we couldn't really shake the 24 footers. As much as I enjoy blasting through the central bay, the racing in the south bay was quite enjoyable and challenging.

It did get a little interesting rounding the leeward mark on the second race with 3 fleets converging. Had to play a some slalom with the little tunas.

The Tunas loved the short WL courses as well! We had some very tight racing, the leeward mark rounding on the last race was quite exciting indeed! Thanks EYC!

The Santana 22 fleet had a great season with tight racing both in the front and the back end of the fleet all year. Garth Copenhaver on Oreo won most of the races and the overall season with an impressive margin, congratulations!
