The Manuel Fagundes Seaweed Soup Regatta kicked of the Nor Cal midwinter sailing season with conditions
befitting a midwinter. A tide with the height of 6.2' at 10:36 dropping to a minus 0.8 @ 17:07 at The Gate
equated to a 4.9 ebb at 15:58, which combined with 12-18 knots of wind with bigger gusts gave the 59 boats
divided in 7 fleets nice if not a bit brisk conditions to knock off any rust accumulated in recent weeks.

In stark contrast to last years Seaweed Soup Opener, the Bay area saw much cooler conditions and wind right off the
start, allow the RC to pull the trigger on time and conclude all racing before 14:00, allowing crews the chance to relax and soak in the
sun at the GGYC on the deck and dock afterwards with a beverage and BBQ hot dog before heading back to their own docks.

With a shroud of fog near the Gate and Crissy Field, mixed with over-running high cirrus at the top of the course and sun on the bottom half
there was just enough Winter and Summer mix to get sailor think about the Dubarrys over flip-flops, foulies over shorts and beanies over
        visors in the attire department.

In the PHRF Division 1, Gary Redelberger and his Lake Tahoe crew on the Farr 36' "Racer X" was the 1st around the 9.3nm Course 9, elapsing 01:26:06
off the clock AND correcting out ahead of boats much larger including the Class 40' "California Condor" SC 50' "Deception" and 1D 48' "Bodacious +"

Scott Easom and crew on the Farr 30 "8 Ball" eased into 1st in the PHRF Div 2, correcting out ahead of Greg Nelsen's Azzura 310 "Outsider" after Dorian McKelvy's J-111, Madmen which
withdrew due to a start/finish line violation. Madmen was 41 seconds faster around the course, andthey could have exonerated themselves by completing a 720 to clear themselves immediately, but
they would have still been bump to 3rd on corrected time.

Course 9 = X, Blackaller, Blossom, Blackaller, Ft Mason, X

Course 8 = X, Blackaller, Ft Mason, Blackaller, Ft Mason, X

Course 2 = X Inflatable At Crissy, Inflatable Off Hyde Street Pier, Inflatable At Crissy, Inflatable Off Hyde Street Pier, X

Scott's Uncle Hank carried his end of the families winning obligation, driving his 8 Meter "Yucca" to a corrected time victory over Frank Morrow's IMX-38 "Hawkeye"in PHRF 3,
which along with PHRF 2 ran the longer 9.3 nm, course 9.

The 9 boat PHRF 4 fleet ran a 6.4 nm Course 8, with Bill Moore sailing the Express 27 "Shenanigans" to 51 second corrected victory over 2nd place IOD
        "Youngster" sailed by Ron Young.

The 3 one design fleets, Catalina 34, Knaar and Folkboats were all assigned to the 6 nm course 2.
In the Cat 34's, David Sanner's "Queimada" bested Page Van Loben Sels's "All Hail" by 1m 21 secs corrected

"50/50", Brent Crawford's was top dog in the 190 boat strong Knaar fleet, just eclipsing Eric Gray's "Kaaar 134" by 2 seconds

And the classic Folkboats saw Richard Keldsen's "Nordic Star" cross the finish line 16 second ahead of Jeter Jeal's Polperro to capture this month bragging rights.

Racing on the City Front continues the 1st Saturday of each month, rain or shine, wind or not at the GGYC!

A bit more detail surrounding MADMEN's withdrawal. We were unaware of our start/finish violation when it occurred. Half way down the last run from Blackaller to Ft. Mason, the race committee made us aware of our violation. After rounding the leeward mark we did complete a 720 and finished the race. As Erik noted and we later confirmed; the 720 must be completed as soon as it can be safely executed after the infraction. We therefore withdrew from the race. Outside of our faux pas the racing and conditions were fantastic! We had 4 J-111s out there which was super fun...we are all smelling one design!

          Congrats to all!
Thanks for the great images as always Erik.

The two in the back would not have been sailing like that THIS weekend. Although I do approve of her attire!

That alters my perception of the AE-28 fleet . . . majorly.

The three gals in the center of the cockpit look thrilled.

Yeah, no doubt the only thought going through their heads was "looks like a penis, only a lot smaller".
