RICHMOND, Calif. — Richmond police were on the scene of a vehicle that apparently drove off of Wharf Street Thursday morning as they searched to determine if a driver was still in the water, according to authorities.
Police received a report of a car halfway submerged in the Santa Fe Channel near the 800 block of Wharf Street around 8:20 a.m., according to Sgt. Nicole Abetkov.
Wharf Street in adjacent to Sugardock, a private dock geared for large live-aboard boats.
A tow truck was at the scene as of 9 a.m. attempting to pull the vehicle from the water, and a dive team was en route, she said.
A U.S. Coast Guard boat was also at the dock assisting with the search.
There was no word as of 9 a.m. if authorities had been able to find a person in or around the vehicle.

Not much of anything to stop you from going in along the seawall there!

    Hope all is okay!

Someone reported at about 8:15 a.m. that a car was partially submerged in the Santa Fe Channel near the 800 block of Wharf Street, Richmond Fire Chief Michael Banks said.
Wharf Street in adjacent to Sugardock, a private dock geared for large live-aboard boats.
About three hours later, with the help of police, fire crews and a Contra Costa County sheriff's dive team, the car was removed from the water and a body was found inside, the chief said.
A U.S. Coast Guard boat also assisted with the search.
He said at about 12:15 p.m. that the body had not been identified. KTVU has learned that the person's body was male.
Banks noted that the car was registered to a man who lived aboard a boat in the Richmond Inner Harbor area.
The Contra Costa County coroner's office was being called to the scene.
Banks said investigators have not determined how long the car had been in the water or how it got there.
Crews from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife were also at the scene working to contain fluids that spilled from the car, fire officials said.

          4 Door BMW? Mercedes?

          Isn't Eros docked there?

Yeah--- when it's in town. The Bodles own Sugardock as well as Eros, but they have a home over the hill at Brickyard. So hopefully the reference to the victim living on his boat leaves them out of the story.
But, it's probably someone we might know at least by sight.
Don't recognize the car though. Pretty generic model.

The victim turns out to be Kyle Miller.

Originally from Rhode Island. Was a long term fixture at the Sugar Dock and a bit of a free spirit. Did some work with Wylie Cat when they needed help on boats in the Richmond area. Recently was working as a furniture builder in Union City, "steady work and benefits" His friend Ross Williams said.

There was a large Winnebago parked near the bottom of the ramp, which apparently Kyle was avoiding coming home Wednesday night(?). It being dark and rainy, most like did not help, but there are also indications that Kyle may have had a seizure. There is a small gap in the I-Beam and a concrete pillar that the car just passed through.

The Sugar Dock is a small community and residents and workers are all in a bit of shock at present.

Kyle is survived by a brother in Washington state and mother in Arizona.

                Fair winds Kyle!
