  • Achtung: @ 12 empty shipping containers floating (or not) outside the G8

    from FleetMon https://www.fleetmon.com/maritime-ne...san-francisco/

Container ship MANOA (Matson Lines) reportedly lost some 12 empty containers 8 miles outside Golden Gates at around 2300 LT Dec 11, leaving Oakland, San Francisco Bay. Vessel was maneuvering to disembark pilot in rough seas, and put broadside open to swell. Several containers were washed overboard. Containers are reported to remain afloat, one was already washed ashore. MANOA is en route to Seattle.

    Be careful out there!

    SF Gate Story: http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/articl...ay-6695633.php

This report says only 6-8 (WTF: they don't know how many they lost??) containers went overboard. Some washing ashore in Pacifica. Sorry, PhotoBoy, I don't think they are filled with a~nejo.

The SF Gate article indicated that the containers were not in distress, or something like that.

Things have been washing up on Pacifica beaches for a long time. When we lived there in the 1960s, several boats washed up including a wooden power boat that broke up on the beach near the golf course (I still have a couple of drawers I scavenged off the beach from that one) and a moth balled destroyer escort being towed to a breaking yard in S. California that washed up at the south end of Nick's Cove (they cut it up on the beach and hauled the pieces away - took months). Then there was the regular "needle patrol" on Linda Mar Beach. Daly City was still dumping their trash at the end of what's now John Daly Blvd. After a storm the beach was littered with syringes, medicine bottles, and other hospital trash. And the dead whales. Lots of oil when the two Standard Oil tankers collided in SF Bay. Don't know what year Photoboy washed up on the beach?

Some shots making the rounds on the interwebs showing one container that washed up at Dead Mans.

Marc Benioff and Drew Laughlin sharing the above an below snaps

Earlier in the day, the swell was impressive, with buoys hitting the 30' at 17 seconds mark. These frames
were taken at high tide and waves were feathering and breaking about 1 mile offshore... and its just the beginning of
              the season...

I think all that plastic that just got dumped in the ocean is going to linger for some time.

From the front page story about Salvador the Cannibal, one could conclude that if he chose crew with all that junk in the trunk, he would have been well fed when they found him.

Proving Sal as a cannibal could be tough, unless he shared some of the gory details on social media.
