I wonder if Loch Lomond would consider installing a hoist. I think it's a total waste of time to even think about asking any municipal marina to do it.

Treasure Island? The TI sailing center is all little boats and mostly for kids I think, yes?

It's not just the hoist and deep water access. Some of the rigs (tow vehicle+trailer) are almost 50' long and need room to turn and get lined up, both at the hoist and in their spaces. Then the spaces themselves - enough to support the operation with their rent. The entire area can have no overhead wires or other stuff to hit - this also rules out remote storage.

Sugardock is for sale but there's no shore space there. The best bet is a boatyard with a Travelift that doesn't want to fix boats any more, like Nelson's before it shut down.

Across the Estuary is an old Sea Ray distributorship building with some docks and a launch ramp. There's a very old, rusty and wimpy hoist on it.
Already talked to the Port of Oakland and that property has been leased already.

Bay options for a 3-ton hoist are: Alameda Marina, Brickyard Cove (but rental agreement says max 4200lbs so that excludes me) and Schoonmaker Point.

Schoonmaker Point isn't really an option for 3 tons. The lift isn't that strong and there's not much water under the lift area. I think Alameda Marina is the only lift in town.

The hoist itself... I mean the actual steel bits are not THAT expensive. Ditto for the 240 volt chain hoist. It can all be had for <$10,000. ....It's all the other stuff.

Also, I called them and the vertical space between the ground and the highest point of the lift is 12 feet. Brickyard Cove is about 13' 8" and Alameda Marina is about 16. Then there's the parking/storage issue. Schoonmaker has, for all intents and purposes...almost zilch.

Bob, I didn't know what Sugardock was, so I looked it up. There's a parking lot right behind it. Do you know what that is?

I just had a short chat on the Port of Oakland site. Text-chatted with "Mike" and asked him about the old Fifth Avenue Marina site. That little basin has been abandoned for years. EDIT...might have meant the 6th avenue marina.

Is British Marine still a going concern? The yard is small but there's a travelift.

                        The old Sea Breeze Marina?

Not sure what it was called, fifteen-twenty years ago before it emptied out. I don't even know WHY it was emptied out.
