  • 2017 Three Bridge Fiasco date?

Safe to assume the 3BF will take place the last Saturday of January? I couldn't find the date for 2017 posted anywhere. Would hate to miss this race as it always gives the boss lady and I plenty of "relationship building exercises" throughout the day. It's her favorite race of the year because she gets to say "I told you so" about a million times. Maybe one of these days I'll learn...

Jan. 28 is correct. We try not to step on the major midwinters, and Corinthian is the previous weekend. The only wiggle room is in years when there are 5 Saturdays in January.

Hey Hanno, any idea why Jibeset won't allow registrations? The "register" button says closed.

Registrations not open yet. I'm not on the board any more, but they're probably still finalizing the NOR and SI.

The 3BF entry record was 368. We tied that last year. Can we bust through that and go for 400 this year?

Talk to anyone you know with a PHRF or BAMA-ratable sailboat that's not hanging from its docklines (or can be pumped out) and get 'em signed up!

I have a nibble from one of my regular crew who recently got a Ranger 26. I'll keep the heat on!

I dunno - somebody named "psycho tiller" pushing an event called a fiasco gives one pause.

But then, what's the worst thing that could happen?

What could possibly go wrong when 400 boats round 3 bridges in different directions? Is it true they changed the SI's this year to state if you don't foul another boat or get fouled at least once you're DQ'd?

I feel like for you regular shorthanded racers the 3BF must be like a professional drinker going out on New Years Eve. Way too many amateurs who just stand in the way of you and your drinks.

No need to worry, Psycho Tiller isn't my real name. My real name is "One who crashes into other boats and runs with scissors" My ancestors were once part of the "Fukawi" tribe. As in, "Where the Fukawi", or was it "We're the Fukawi"? Darn, can't remember now.

                            2017 Ferry Transit Protocol

The USCG Sector San Francisco has just released a new ferry transit protocol that provides
an indicator of the main transit line and where areas of congestion are to be expected and caution
                            should be employed.

One area that stands out is the Blossom Rock area where a multitude of ferry routes cross
with other commercial traffic as well as ships and recreational vessels.

On area of large contention is the Ferry Terminal and the area and immediate surrounding water.
In recent 3BF's some boats have dropped anchor in the stay clear zone and that has cause much consternation
with the Ferry Boat captains who are dealing with tight conditions and big currents already.

YRA and SSS have long restricted the Pinole Shoal Channel, forcing the fleets to the south side where the ferries want to go (I assume to shorten their routes). Why can't the ferries use the Pinole Shoal channel since it is already reserved for commercial traffic?

Similarly, SSS and now YRA have restricted a large area off the Richmond Long Wharf, forcing the fleets into the narrow band left between the North Channel and Southampton Shoal channels depicted on the chart. Again, the ferries could use the deep water channel, skirting the edge if a ship is in it.

Agreed on not anchoring near the ferry terminals or entrance to Pier 39. I figured that was common sense but apparently not.
