DHF 2017 anyone? 38th edition Sat. March 18! Skippers' meeting Wed March 15 at Oakland YC

SAS is not required but recommended. Required readings will be in NOR/SI.

Thanks for asking. 2 ways.
Before registration is closed the racer can change it in jibeset on their own. You select the desired course on entry.
The equipment list, roll call, time limit, turning mark are different for the different courses.
The waiver says you are going to do what you selected. Racer can update entry including course as necessary.

On the course, you withdraw from the course you checked in- as you would in DHF in the past. Once that is acknowledged by RC (as DHF in the past) you can then inform RC that you are entering the desired shorter course. Equipment is downward compatible so you already meet the shorter course requirements. RC updates Jibeset real time so CG is up to date.

23. WITHDRAWALS
Any yacht withdrawing from the race for any reason must
contact the Race Committee via VHF Channel 16, 71, or via
telephone 650-394-6343 as soon as possible, and then again
once on the bay side of the Golden Gate Bridge. If retiring by
radio, make sure the race committee acknowledges your
withdrawal. Yachts identified as having started, but not
finishing or withdrawing will result in phone calls to the skipper
and crew emergency phone numbers, and then if not found,
will result in a USCG response. Withdrawing yachts that fail to
comply with this provision shall be denied entry in next year’s
race. Once withdrawal is confirmed DHF racers may confirm
entering the DHWB, DHG7 or DHBL races, a DHWB racer may
confirm entering the DHG7 or DHBL races, and DHG7 racers
may confirm entering DHBL race.

Assuming fixed mount 25W VHF
Assuming mast head antennae

To the remote race deck yes. We have talked to boats after rounding SE Farallones/Maintop
To the CG yes
To GGYC- yes if line of sight
To berkeley and richmond- a lot more than you think
