In a civilized society, the promoters of the Alcatraz swim thing would give the swimmers car wash mitts so the contestants could
give the sailboats a little love as the pass by in close proximity.
Tough race at the end trying to avoid those Giants fans and live crab purveyors without spinning out. I threatened them with a winch handle but it didn't work.
I can't tell if Buzz is aboard Condor - did he complete his bi-fecta?
We had over 50 boats including a couple of Tri's approved to race but that Nacra 18 (or whatever) was not part of our race.
Did he have any support out there or was he expecting us to save his ass if things went sideways?
I have no problem with anybody sailing where they want, when they want. I just find it a bit of a coincidence that they just happened to decide to go out to the Lightship the same day and time as we did.
Did they really sail all the way to the light bucket?
I don't remember seeing them round but when we saw them they were beyond the ship channel. Did anybody see them round? Does anyone know if they actually got home?

Yup they rounded the lightbucket maybe 100 ft in front of us... was talking to them about if I might need to give them room. It was a Nacra 20. Met them again half way home. Yes a bit dicey their being out there without a crash boat...

Given what it takes to put a boat on the line for an ocean race, I wouldn't want to be the one to pick them up. I would do it of course (law of the sea and all that) but I wouldn't be happy about it. That's what they need to understand.
