Local sailor Peter Wagner and crew of Skeleton Key exit day one of the 2017 J-111 Worlds in 1st place,
sporting 1 point lead over the mostly Aussie crew on a borrowed boat that used to be known
as "The Nipple". ( see article HERE!!)

In 15 to 20 knots of breeze and mostly cloudy conditions the 8 boat J-111 fleet went through
the paces on the Berkeley Circle West. A series of long windward leewards that started with
some bad judgements on the flood velocity which caused some comedic maneuvers as couple boats
failed to fetch the weather mark and got the squeeze out.

As the day progressed the wind increased and provided good, challenging racing with 4 of the top 5
boats coming in the form of out of town guests. The aforementioned Joust ( formerly Aeolus) sit in 2nd with
8 points, and Jim Connelly's Slush Fund tied with Martin Roesch's Velocity, both from Annapolis,
and both with 10 points.

The racing continues through the weekend, with Saturdays onshore events being run from the
South Beach Yacht Club due to the impending "Patriot Prayer" rally that is causing grief for many
Marina residents and boat owners and people just wanting to enjoy the Presidio.
