Two adults and a minor were rescued by the Coast Guard on Sunday after their 30-foot sailboat capsized about 10 miles west of Torrey Pines, Coast Guard officials said Monday.

Those aboard the overturned sailing vessel, the Divided Soul, called mayday and triggered an emergency positioning beacon about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, alerting Coast Guard crews in San Diego of the emergency and the boat’s exact location.

A Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey helicopter from Air Station Miramar happened to be operating nearby, flew toward the crippled boat and hovered overhead until Coast Guard rescuers arrived, officials said.

The crew aboard the fast-response cutter Robert Ward — one of two ships dispatched by the Coast Guard, along with an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter — located all three people from the capsized boat, officials said.

The crew launched a smaller rescue boat “and pulled the three people out of the water with no reported medical concerns,” Coast Guard officials said in a statement.

Of those rescued, two were adults and one was a “child,” Coast Guard officials said, but their ages nor other identifying details were given. The survivors were taken to a nearby marina, and the owner of the Divided Soul was coordinating its salvage.
