  • 2020 Great Pumpkin Regatta: The Pandemic Revised Edition

129 boats signed up for the COVID 19 Reconditioned Edition of the RYC's Annual salute to all
things hallow and weenie. Gone was the usual Saturday buoy races and the festive party and costume
contest, as per county ordinances for social gatherings and with special permission from USCG, the
Pursuit Race was moved to Saturday as a stand alone event. The forecast was promising with SW winds
in the mid teens and mostly sunny weather. And while the breeze on the central bay filled in as promised,
it took its sweet time to turn the corner around Point Blunt and over to the starting area off Southampton Shoal.

Not that anyone was complaining, it was a great morning for putting around and catching up with old friends and acquaintances
and enjoying the fantastic fall weather that Northern California relishes in!

Paul Sutcheck off to a fast start on his Cal 20 Slainte , winning the SH Green Boat Division hands down

When the wind finally did fill in enough to get the boats moving in the right direction, aided by a nice ebb the high raters worked their
way the the building windline where things change quickly from a drifter to all butts on the windward rail in a hurry.

The majority of fleet seemed to favor the clockwise direction, ( Alcatraz, then Angel Island) vs the opposite.
And the 1st jailbreak of boats rounded Alcatraz from that direction en masse.

Peter Stonberg's Extreme 40' Shadow X would take the clockwise direction and take line honors in the process

For many, this was their 1st sighting of the Botin 65' Artemis formerly known as CARO, in race mod on the bay.

Shaking the cobwebs out in fine fashion, Zackary Andersons, Velvet Hammer would take the 1st Mono to finish pennant, using the counter clockwise method, as many of the low raters chose.

Another pleasant surprise, Nancy and The Commodore made a surprise appearance aboard the well traveled Flashgirl
