A boat erupted into flames at the Bethel Island Marina on Sunday night, and a man who lives on the 30-foot cabin cruiser remains missing.
East County Today reports that firefighters responded to a call of a boat on fire at the marina at 10:04 p.m. The owner of the vessel, who reportedly lives and sleeps on the boat, could not be accounted for.
The man's vehicle was located in the marina's parking lot, which heightened concerns over his condition.
“The boat was fully involved when the first engine arrived on scene,” East Contra Costa Fire Battalion Chief Craig Auzenne told KPIX. “They were able to extinguish the fire…The hull is still intact so its still floating.”
The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is now taking over the investigation and is working with a salvage team to bring the boat back up to the surface, Auzenne said.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, he said.
