Saturday's CYC Mid-Winter regatta enjoyed an abundance of sunshine, crisp temperatures, air pressure ranging from adequate to inadequate, more than enough current and plenty of debris passing by for all!

L36.com's Interpretation of the outflow at 13:30 on Saturday, without the added runoff!

67 boats rallied to the call, the 1st Party Circuit event of 2023, with 7 fleets, to shake off any rust, enjoy some camaraderie, tasty snacks and fine adult beverages and enjoy the sunshine which had been on sabbatical since New Years Eve. While some boats opted out for a variety of reasons, those in attendance were treated to an afternoon of a refresher course on the subtilties of northerly breezes, King Tide currents, avoidance of floating things and semi floating things.

Course 5 was the soup du jour, a pleasant reach from starting area, a current and wind assist towards Yellow Bluff, which had more current than wind and then a trek east to G"1" north east of Alcatraz. This leg was certainly the most difficult and the meg ebb was working in conflict with the VMG of the fleet. The breeze favored reaching off to get some relief in the Alcatraz cone zone, yet pointing higher offered lesser wind and current for most. The new to Bay, TP52' "Heather" sailed by Cal Maritime crew, with Kyle Collins on the helm and Elvis on board, pulled off a nice horizon job, staying north of Alcatraz and finishing the 8.2 NM course in 1:46:06, the only boat to do so und 2 hours, Taking PHRF 1 for the day!

The next best elapsed time was Mark Kennedy's Melges 32" Nuckalavee" with a 2:34:40 elapsed, yielding on corrected time to David Halliill's J-120 Peregrine in PHRF 2 by just under 5 minutes!
Other winners:
J-109 "Reverie" sailed by John Arens in PHRF3
Laurence Pulgram's Sabre Spirit, " Rhapsody" 1st in PHRF4
Jim Gibbs Express 27' "Moonlight" 1st in E-27 division
Gordie Nash's turbo hybrid yellow boat in PHRF 5
