  • Crewed Farallones race

It’s time again for the “rounding of the rock pile” fully crewed edition. Who will be out there? Any early weather forecast? And most importantly……………what kind of sandwiches will you be having??
I’ll be out on the “Medium size north American wild cat” Have not looked at the forecast (what difference will it make I’m just the bow dude and do what I’m told) and am hoping for Salami with red onions, Hot peppers and all the fixings (less mayo).

    See you all out there!!!!

Crewing again on Red Sky while my boat is still in boat jail. Taking the older daughter along as well -- she is lousy rail meat however @ 105 lbs.

Another great race finished around 17:30. I think 4th boat in behind Shadow, Criminals and Koco. Rounded the Islan.d neck & neck with DT I think they saved their time on us. top speed was 17 on the course 19 in the bay. Home with a hot pizza at 20:15 and ready to pamper Mrs. WD for moms day

We stayed to the south for the beat out, which turned out to be a mistake. Finished at ~ 1950. Pretty strong wind right in the Gate, a couple of boats had some real problems. Saw some nice whale tails right at the island, and had a good time with some new folks on Red Sky.

Any word on Valis or Galaxsea? They were still out at 2130.

VALIS crossed the finish at 21:43:45 (9:43:45 PM, self-reported by phone). No drama, we just don't sail to windward as well as the rest of you guys. It was a great day though. On the way home the wind was too beamy for the spinnaker, so we had a nice comfy reach back to the gate.

I should pay more attention to the start sequence. We managed to beat everyone over the starting line -- too bad it was the one-minute warning! Oh well, a quick jibe around and we were back in our normal position.

Glad to hear you had a good race, VALIS.

The start sequence was screwed up somehow, sometime around 0950 they dropped a minute or something. I had synched my $12 Timex to the 0940 announcement, one of our other crew and I were in agreement. Maybe I need one of those fancy sailing watches.

Yeah, but wind right inside the GG was much, much stronger in the late afternoon, early evening.

                            Wind...

The light ship plot looks just like what we saw. 10 to 18 on the way home, mostly near 10. And as pogen said, inside the gate winds climbed to a max of 29.

Thanks...I use the Bodega, SF Entrance and HMB as indicators for what the day will bring wind wise, and sometimes the anemometers start reading false, especially in lighter winds.
