"The first boat to finish, at 1540, was the Prosail 40 catamaran Shadow, more than an hour ahead of the first monohull, the R/P 45 Criminal Mischief, which arrived at 1658, followed within half an hour by the Santa Cruz 52 Kokopelli2 and Ocelot. "

              Crewed Farallones Record INfo

              Fowarded from Slackwater SF:

The DHF record prior to 1991 was held by Wind Warrior with Peter Hogg as crew. Aotea broke that record in 1991 in a windy southerly in rough conditions, time about 4:15 In the crewed Farallones race you could round the island in either direction. I assumed it was the same for DH Farallones, and with the southerly I had us on a nice layline for a starboard rounding. Peter came on deck- "Where's the island?"
              "Down there"
"You know we have to leave it to port, don't you?"
"You've got to be shitting me."
We wasted about 10-15 minutes with that mistake. But I figured the record would last for awhile, because how often do you get a windy reach out - reach back?

The next year - 1992 - conditions were even better! Same reach out, reach back; but the water was much flatter because it was a new breeze. So Jack Halterman and Zan Drejes, sailing the Formula 40 "Tom Cat" broke Aotea's record. My memory is their time was 3:25 and Aotea about 3:45, with Peter Hogg and Kame Richards on board. I sailed on Erin that year.

Tom Cat was indeed Blackaller's old boat; but Tom died in 1989

We've posted a story about the OYRA Farallones Race, including several photos. We went out on the GGB (where it was windy and sunny) for the start, and were blessed with good conditions for photography. Please see http://www.norcalsailing.com/entries...arallones.html
