The annual StFYC Heavy Weather Regatta really lived up to its title this year with epic breeze and currents challenging 44 participants who came from as far as British Columbia and Seattle. As the grand finale of the Harken West Coast Opti Series, which has 2 Southern California and 2 Northern California regattas, The Heavy Weather Regatta tests the mettle kids ranging in age from 8-15.

With the Heavy Weather Clinic run Wednesday and Thursday prior, and 3 races per day on Friday, Saturday And Sunday, the participants get a full dose of big wind and challenging currents. Support teams from numerous local YC's provide a 3-1 ratio of support to sailors, keeping safety as a number 1 priority.

This years 12-25 knot breeze and big flood and ebbs, really kept the participants on their toes and their bailers working feverishly. " Were really amazed at the ability and fearlessness of these kids" Commented parent and volunteer, Will Baylis, a former Oly Silver Medalist and parent.

This years bragging rights for the Championship go to Kyle Larsen ( 35 points) from the SFYC and Sequoia YC junior sailing programs with a 1 point victory over Jack Toland of the Seattle YC ( 36 Points) in 9 races
