  • Good grief, it's the Great Pumpkin

"Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He's gotta pick this one. He's got to. I don't see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there's not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see." -Linus Van Pelt
For the first time in living memory, the Great Pumpkin pursuit race is NOT on the day of my daughter's birthday party. I will sail in this race.

But, based on the quote above from Linus, I have to know the deal with the pumpkins. I plan to sail on a sincere boat with no hypocritical phonies so, of course, we will have the biggest advantage in picking up pumpkins. What do we win for getting the most? Any tips and/or advice?

Cool, I happen to have one. Any CG regulations I should be aware of? I've heard there are now dolphins in the Bay and I'd hate to spear one.

Let's hope that the same person who has run it for several years will run it again this year...

I heard a rumor that the brains behind the Pumpkin for several years is not currently signed up to run the event this year.

A large bass boat net on one of the regatta individuals may be necessary to save this event from destruction.

This is not a minor issue. For those that like the event, we need to speak up to keep the honorary Pumpkin king involved and overthrow the incumbent idiot trying to hijack the event based on it's past success.

So who exactly are you talking about? "incumbent idiot"? If T&J are leaving for points south, and "the brains behind the Pumpkin" has decided to take a break you should probably volunteer to help whomever decided to volunteer to fill the gap.

I'm one of those that like the event, but some change might be refreshing............

I don't know who T&J are - but they are not the brains behind the event - Eric is.

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out - its not the chair.

aA hit the nail on the head. A few years back we scored four pumpkins and won the pumpkin catching. It's kinda like winning the party. We were at an advantage with a Wabbit and low free board. The first two were a case of a blind squirrel finding a nut. After those two we started hunting them and stopped racing. I even started applying 'pumpkin catching tactics' like jibing on to starboard to cut off potential rivals. It was one of my most fun pursuit races, and it would be a shame if RYC didn't continue the tradition.

                              Pete----
Is there a possibility we won't be chasing pumpkins? It's the only tangible proof of victory on Sunday..... The finish order is never accurate when the main mob battles to cross the finish line. Pumpkins are forever!!!!
                              Or, for pie.
