Lining up for the Horn
Cape Horn is just over 1000 miles away, but they will be hard-earned miles...
The teams have the end of the hardest part of the longest leg in the history of The Ocean Race in sight.
On Friday afternoon UTC, the most iconic of landmarks to offshore sailors - Cape Horn - lies just over 1000 miles to the east.
But those miles won't come easily. Gale force winds and 6-8 metre seas are on the menu...

Minnehaha Continues Leading The Slow Ascent North
Big week-end ahead.
In the un-aptly named Pacific, Ian isn’t slowed down too much by his torn mainsail, and Jeremy has resumed his course towards Cape Horn after the front yesterday. 600 miles from the rock, he is a little further east than he would like but keeps a good distance to the Chilean coastline: 250 miles, or 5 times more than Abhilash at the same latitude! Unlike his Atlantic mates, he can count on accurate weather information.

The Hairiest Of Nights
Hello Friends-
I am coming to you live from a very active North Atlantic Ocean as we make our way from Grenada to Lorient, France in the 8th and final leg of the Globe40 RTW race.
This leg has been a bit of everything from a strong upwind start in the lower Caribbean to being becalmed for 3 days to now being pummeled as we approach the Azores archipelago.
Last night was the hairiest night of our entire RTW voyage. The wind and sea state kept building until... -

A Matter Of Opinion
Credit to GUYOT environnement - Team Europe who have regained the lead on the race tracker as well as their position as the most southerly boat in the fleet. In a race south, that's a good thing.... or is it?
Two of the three boats positioned about 120 miles to the west - Team Holcim-PRB and 11th Hour Racing - have just (as at 1200 UTC) put in a gybe to the west, consolidating position and setting up for a weather transition... -

Class 40 Reaches Recife
The Anglo-American team AHMAS (Class40 n? 127) crossed the finish line of leg 6 of the GLOBE40 in Recife today at 11:48 p.m. local time. After 20 days and 10 hours of racing and 3,803 miles covered (7417 km), Craig Horshield and James Oxenham brilliantly conclude a particularly difficult leg which put the GLOBE40 crews to the test. In the heart of Recife, the “Venice of Brazil”, they inaugurated this evening the brand new RECIFE MARINA, a 250-berth marina in the... -

A Sigh Of Relief For Gryphon Solo Crew
Hello Friends-
I am writing to report that Joe, Roger and GS2 made it around the infamous Cape Horn on December 18, 2022 (see photos below). I have been thinking about this for a very long time, really since I went around Cape Horn the first time in March 2016. That was a very rough and difficult passage, with winds and seas in excess of 60k/feet, and I was forced to round outside Diego Ramirez Island and could not get near Cape Horn rock for the classic photos. This time,...
